The Leader Advancement Scholar, or LAS, is really a main reason I chose CMU. It is a 4 year scholarship I and roughly 40 other students get for showing outstanding leadership in our home and high school communities. The cohort as a whole has protocol to follow like taking certain leadership classes, serving a certain amount of volunteer hours, getting involved with registered student organizations and living in a specific leadership dorm for the first year. LAS was really nothing like I had expected. It has been a good experience thus far, as it has opened me up to a broad range of people to network and connect with. I’m quite excited to see what the next three years of being in this cohort will bring to me.
